Path of Exile Item Upgrading
Players can upgrade their weapons and equipment by adding new accessories. They can also boost its base stats or add additional benefits. To upgrade an item, the player has to have it in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Upgrade components

Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a specific level to upgrade.
To upgrade an item of armor, the player must choose it and click on the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen showing what the expected upgrade stats will be, as well as the required element or material required for the upgrade to take place.
There are three types: universal upgrades (which include gems), prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, like gems, can be used on any kind of equipment. Leveling
Path of Exile's upgrade process is different from previous versions in some fundamental ways. Gear is now categorized in tracks, and each item can be upgraded so many times before it is "leveled out." The cost of upgrading increases with each level however the materials required aren't as high. In general, weapons and jewelry offer greater value for trading when fully upgraded than armor. Upgrades to gold are recommended for weapons that have spell/weapon-damage glyphs. This will result in a significant improvement in their performance. Armor that has an upgraded appearance will also benefit from this because its defense will increase as it goes from purple to gold.
